So far the game is panning out more or less like it did historically - apart from me losing one of the key men really early on Bromhead (Michael Cain’s character in the film Zulu). However, my losses are astronomical compared to the real situation. I think in total they lost 19 men, slayed about 450 Zulu’s. I’m up to about 50 odd dead now.
I have the patterns of attack set to “historical” so perhaps the events are unfolding as they should, in terms of Zulu’s getting to the Hospital building and torching it. You can play the game with random patterns of attack… but I bought the game to enjoy/experience the history and the feeling of desperation.
They’re coming in thick and fast from all sides now, and the last few turns they’ve been getting to the mealie bag walls and are vaulting into the compound.. I guess I’ve lost too many men to cover the large outer perimeter. So my decision to move the men back to the biscuit box retrenchment barricade is probably a prudent one, and it is also what happened in the actual events. Cutting off the patients from the hospital, who were wounded, had to knock mouseholes through the hospital walls with their bayonets and fight off the Zulu’s getting in to the Hospital, and the Zulu’s in the courtyard to get to the inner barricade. A number of them made it is what still amazes me!
It’s bloody exciting stuff.. even if the game doesn’t screenshot all that well, to show the action.
Thanks for reading.
